Freeze dried - Information - FAQ

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our products, shipping options and packaging

What are the advantages of freeze-drying?

• the original structure of the material to be dried is retained
• gentle drying due to lower drying temperatures
• Flavours remain better preserved than with conventional drying processes
• superior quality
• the porous structure of the product allows easy rehydration
• does not swell
• vitamin- and nutrient-friendly
What kind of food can freeze-dried be assigned to?

Freeze-dried is suitable either as a complete feed or as a single feed, depending on the composition of the starting products. Specifically, this means that it can be a substitute for BARF food, but can also serve the much larger dog or cat “snack” market. The decisive factor here is not only the composition, but also the size and shape of the product. Our small cubes, packed in smaller packaging units of up to 100g are particularly suitable as a snack. Larger product forms such as goulash or thalers are particularly suitable for large dogs. Here either as a direct BARF replacement or for the big hunger in between.
Is there a conversion from normal to freeze-dried products?

There is a decisive factor in freeze-drying, depending on the product. The freeze-drying method, in which water is almost completely removed from the starting product, requires relatively large starting quantities to produce the end product. High amounts of energy are also required to convert the water from the frozen state directly into the gaseous state.
We have listed here a small insight into how much raw material is freeze-dried:

Is there anything to consider when feeding freeze-dried products
]
In principle, freeze-dried products can be fed as they are. However, it is advisable to always add a bowl of water to the dog/cat for larger amounts of food or when replacing it as BARF. Because the food contains almost no moisture, dogs/cats take it up separately later when needed.

How long is the shelf life?

After freeze-drying, the products have a shelf life of 6-18 months. However, after opening the package, it is still advisable to use the products within one week. The products should also be stored in a cool, dry and dark place, as they are fresh products without additives to extend their shelf life.
How to mark the product

The goods must be labelled in accordance with the Feedstuffs Ordinance. These include:
Content:
Nutritional values:
Producing business:
best before date:
Are the products also available in organic

We can also produce our products as organic for you. The company is certified organic. The eco-control office is also available.
Which products can be freeze-dried?
]
In principle, all fresh products can be freeze-dried. From fresh meat to vegetables and fish. We have already successfully freeze-dried: horse, lamb, salmon, beef, poultry, game, fruit and vegetables. A mixture of the starting materials is also possible.

Are freeze-drying stabilizers or antioxidants used?

No. No additives are added during freeze-drying. This process is used to preserve the products without any admixtures. A 100% natural way to preserve the meat as it is in its raw state.

How does the fat content come about?

The high fat content of some freeze-dried products is relatively easy to explain. The products lose almost all of the water. Now it is the case that fat not only serves as an energy store but also as a water reservoir. Gentle freeze-drying does not damage or destroy any nutrients, minerals or tissue. Water is extracted from the meat, for example in beef goulash, where we have 30% fat when freeze-dried, but the fat cells themselves are not attacked. Thus the percentage of fat is increased by the withdrawal of the water. With our beef goulash cubes this would be as follows:
1kg beef cubes become 330g freeze-dried cubes. Fat is the same amount in both products, namely about 100g. The water is simply no longer available, which increases the fat content. This means that the starting product has only 10% fat. From a nutritional point of view, these values do not pose a problem, as the dog also has to eat about the factor (here 3:1) less food. The volume remains the same, the feeling of satiety begins in the same way and the water is usually absorbed separately.
